How do I make a bulleted or numbered list? Why don't I get bullets numbers when I use <ul>, <ol>, and <li> tags?

To make lists work, you need to use the style in the text.css style sheet for a standard, bulleted list:

Apply the .default_list style to your <ul> or <ol> like so: <ul class="default_list">.
Lists created without this style (or any other style you choose to make for lists) will not show bullets or indentation.
List styling was cleared out in the reset.css so that the lists that shouldn't be formatted, such as the campus links list, left navigation link list, and footer link list would not have bullets.

Update all the code!

As you begin to code your pages using the templates, there are several places that you'll need to update to specify information, metadata, and links related to your site. Here is a list of what you should watch for from the top to the bottom of an index page:

Add unit-specific information to the description and keywords metadata tags:

<meta name="keywords" content=" " />

Change the title tag: <title>960 Template : University of Minnesota</title>
Update the content that will show when/if you use the print.css style sheet and make sure you adjust the print.css style sheet as you change the code in the templates:

Update the "alt" tag on the graphic header: alt="Unit's home page" and make the header link back to your unit's home page from all your secondary pages.
If you choose to use the optional unit hierarchy links on the graphic header, make sure to change the names and make the appropriate links: <div class="unit"><a href="#">The College of Brevity</a> > <a href="#">School of Significant Impact</a></div>
Update your unit's home page link in the left navigation and make sure it links to your home page: <a href="#"><strong>Department of Long Nomenclature Home</strong></a>
If you use the optional unit footer, update all areas to apply to your unit. You can do anything you like here; don't keep the site map and contact links unless you plan to use them:

What's optional and what's required

Required:

The template header. This content cannot be altered (except for the behavior of the search, which can be set to search you unit's site and the information for the print style sheet). The template header begins with the  comment and ends at the  comment.

The template footer. This content cannot be altered (except for the copyright date and last modified date). The template footer begins with the  comment and ends at the  comment.

Optional:

The horizontal navigation, the unit footer, and related links in the left navigation. The layout and design of the page between the template header and footer is completely open for you to do anything you'd like. The graphics that come with the templates can be used "as is," customized, or replaced by your own design and graphics.

How long do I have to change my site to use the new template header and footer?

All University Web sites are expected to use the new Web template header and footer on their sites by the end of 2010. Contact University Relations if you have questions or concerns.

Is there a 760 pixel wide versions of the templates?

A fully coded 760 pixel wide page has not been coded for the new templates. However, 760 pixel template headers and footers are available for download.

Are the new Web templates available on the UThink blogs?

Yes! You can download templates for the UThink blogs and keep a consistent look between your Web site and your blog.
